A couple days after the farmer got back from his hunting trip where he walks and walks in nature searching elk he was able to sit down. In a combine seat! It was (when writing this a few days ago) day 4 and he has been pretty much planted in that combine cab from mid-morning to late into the night.
Starting this go around of corn harvest we had about _______ acres. Other then our semi-truck giving us issues we have had a pretty smooth harvest. Come Monday though the semi heads to the repair shop, we have been baby-ing it with water continually. We are hoping it can be back on it’s wheels by the time soybeans are. We found out it needs a new radiator.
Overall we felt the production was better than expected. The yields ran anywhere from 101 to 117 on the non-irrigated corn. We have soybeans and milo yet to harvest.
I will be preparing and planning for our annual landlord appreciation dinner that is November 3rd. We set it a little later this year so we weren’t so stressed with harvest and the event. I am hoping many, if not all can make the dinner, it is one of the times we get to really build relationships with the landowners. It’s truly a wonderful evening, at least for us! 🙂
Our soybeans will be next to be harvested in addition to sowing wheat. We plan to sow about 600 acres of wheat. Milton has been prepping the drill and combine for the various tasks that are quickly approaching. I am sure he will have that header in the bean fields this week!
Cooler mornings and earlier sunsets make us realize that our outdoor evening family time is coming to a close. Before we know it the darkness of evening will be at 5:30 or 6:00 p.m. I like the winter time only because it’s a less hectic schedule and more together time but I miss the sunshine for sure!
